Iowa Update: Suppressor Legalization Bill Passes in House

Today, House File 527, the bipartisan omnibus firearms bill that would legalize suppressors in Iowa, passed in the Iowa House floor with an overwhelming 75-24 vote. This vote puts Iowa on track to become the 40th state to legalize suppressor ownership.

The ASA is very excited about the prospects of this bill becoming law, but there is still work to do before we can declare victory. The Iowa Senate is currently considering a companion bill, Senate File 425, that would achieve many of the same objectives as the just-passed HF 527, including suppressor legalization.  However, it is critical that the Senate bill be amended to conform to the language found in HF 527.

We need your help to push this effort past the finish line! Using this link, please call and email members of the Senate and urge them to conform SF 425 to the language in HF 527. With your help, we will get this legislation to Governor Branstad’s desk and legalize suppressor ownership for 3 million Iowans.
