How to Purchase A Suppressor
Purchasing a suppressor is a simple process that has become even easier thanks to technological innovations by ASA sponsor companies and the introduction of the ATF eForms system. To buy from a dealer, you must be at least 21 years of age, a resident of the U.S. residing in one of the 42 states that currently allow civilian ownership of suppressors, and be legally eligible to purchase a firearm. Once you are ready to buy your suppressor, you will submit the following forms and information, along with your dealer, to the ATF via the eForms system, then certify your submission (registration required). A copy of your submission must be mailed to your local Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO)—usually your local Sheriff's Department or Police Department.
While applications can still be submitted on paper, it is discouraged, and approval times will take considerably longer. Over 98% of all applications are now submitted electronically.
